This one-week intensive course introduces participants to the fundamentals of sign language as a core tool for fostering inclusive communication. It is designed for educators, social workers, healthcare providers, and individuals who wish to acquire basic communication skills with persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. The program combines theory with interactive practice, offering participants an opportunity to learn finger spelling, essential vocabulary, and non-verbal communication techniques that support inclusion and accessibility.

Ursla Nana Ama Frimpong
AÂ dedicated and self-motivated Special Education professional with a strong passion for inclusive learning. With a Bachelor of Education in Special Education from the University of Education, Winneba, she has developed in-depth knowledge and teaching skills in Hearing Impairment and Sign Language. Her teaching experience spans both academic and practical settings, including work with students with special needs. She is committed to promoting equal educational opportunities and empowering learners to communicate effectively through sign language.

Course breakdown
- Day 1: Introduction to Sign Language and Deaf Culture (Overview of hearing impairment, importance of sign language, Deaf culture and etiquette. Group discussions and video demonstrations)
- Day 2 Finger Spelling and Basic (Introduction to the sign language alphabet, Handshapes numbers, and gestures. Practice through interactive activities)
- Day 3 Basic Vocabulary and Daily Expressions (Learning greetings, emotions, and common words related to family, school, and social interactions)
- Day 4 Forming Sentences and Expressive Communication (Combining vocabulary into meaningful sentences. Role plays and storytelling in sign language)
- Day 5 Applied Communication and Evaluation (Group presentations, interactive dialogue practice, and reflection. Course review and certification).
