This practical experience equips me with a holistic understanding of the intersection between academic research and real-world applications.
Schedule
Day 1 (3 hours): GeoPandas
GeoPandas is a powerful open-source library designed to simplify working with geospatial data in Python. It extends the capabilities of Pandas by enabling spatial operations on geometric types, making it ideal for handling vector data (such as points, lines, and polygons). You’ll learn how to load, visualize, and inspect geospatial data using GeoPandas. We’ll demonstrate how to read shapefiles, GeoJSON, and other spatial data formats, and perform geospatial analysis.
- Dive into the world of cloud GeoPandas library
- Load and explore Geospatial Data
- Perform spatial operations
- Plotting Geospatial Data
Day 2 (3 hours): GeeMap
GeeMap is a powerful Python package that integrates Google Earth Engine (GEE) into Python workflows, enabling efficient raster data analysis and interactive map visualizations. With GeoMap, you can utilize the power of satellite imagery, environmental datasets, and raster operations directly in Python. You’ll learn how to access datasets from Google Earth Engine and visualize them on interactive maps. I will demonstrate how to perform essential raster operations, and extract raster data for specific regions.
- Search for datasets in Google Collab
- Travel through time as you track satellite images and watch how our planet has changed since 2000
- Perform raster calculations
- Compute zonal statistics
This course offers flexible scheduling within a two weeks window. You and your tutor will work together to find a time that works best for both of you.
Course Length: 2 sessions
Session Duration: 180 minutes
Class Size: 5 – 10 participants
Please note that if you choose the offline program, the course fee does not cover accommodation in Amsterdam.
