Who is the Coach?

Dr Umashankar has been privileged to be in teaching training for the past 17 years. He has a master’s degree in English, Linguistics, and Psychology (IGNOU), a PhD in English, and a PhD in Organizational Psychology. He has presented almost 40 research papers in national and international seminars and approximately 20 papers have been published in reputed peer-reviewed journals in the domains of Organizational Behaviour, Business Communication and Positive Psychology (Published in SAGE journals) and five book chapters (SAGE, Springer, Routledge). He is passionate about doing research in various domains like human psychology, organizational behaviour, psycholinguistics, and literature. Dr Umashankar has pursued more than 15 short-term courses from NIMHANS, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Illinois, and Copenhagen Business School on topics like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Behavioural Statistics, Strategic Leadership Management, Consumer Neuroscience and Neuro Marketing, Positive Psychology etc.

He has authored a book titled Behavioural Dynamics at the Workplace published by Routledge and many universities like Stanford University, UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), St. Joseph University, and many other universities in France and Australia. In addition, he is a columnist in the Deccan Herald and has written many articles on the Happiness Business Model, Emotional Intelligence and other topics related to organisational psychology.

Currently, he is with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (Manipal University), Bangalore Campus as an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Behavioural Science. His current job role involves training bank professionals (Scale 1 to scale 4) on behavioural topics like Employee motivation, Stress Management, Emotional Intelligence, Transactional Analysis, Business Communication etc… Prior to his association with Manipal University, he was with Acharya Institute of Management and Sciences (Peenya, Bangalore) as Assistant Professor and Head, Dept. of English. Besides, he was also associated with MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor of English.

As a freelancer, Dr Umashankar has conducted leadership and behavioural training programs for various organizations and his clientele includes IBM, EY, Goldman Sachs, and others. Besides, he assists organisations in constructing assessments for succession planning, behavioural or cognitive competencies and others.
